Region 4’s Regional Teams are comprised of the top six all-around gymnasts for each of the level 7, 8, 9 and 10 prime age groups. These gymnasts are invited to the annual weeklong Region 4 Training Camp, which typically takes place in July. Gymnasts gain valuable experience working with other coaches, build friendships and learn new skills with other gymnasts in the region.
While there is a camper fee, the camp is heavily subsidized by Region 4 and by coaches who sacrifice time away from their own gyms to develop our region’s top gymnasts. We appreciate all the coaches for their tireless dedication and willingness to serve our region in so many ways.
In the past, the optional region teams (previously only levels 9 and 10) would compete head-to-head against the other eight regions in the country at the Junior Olympic National Championships. More recently, USAG has moved the regional team championships to a separate event, reducing it to a single six-person region team which takes place in early March. This event is called the Regional Elite Team Championships (RETC). USA Gymnastics hopes that each region would continue to strengthen its Junior Elite program so that all gymnasts participating in this RETC event are elite level gymnasts. For Region 4, the six-person region team is selected based upon a number of factors including: all-around and individual scores and ranks at the most recent regional championships, present level of training, competition/injury status, availability and willingness to participate.
